Team Results
1/11/2012
Gainesville vs. Marsteller
A congratulations goes out to the 2012 Girl's Varsity Basketball Champion... Gainesville Hawks!  The Hawks finished their season a perfect 10-0 with a 32-19 victory over Marsteller last even at Patriot High School.  After a VERY slow start, Gainesville took just a two point lead into the half. The second half was Hawk time as the team managed to increase the point gap and ultimately capture their 2nd title in as many years.  All season long it was a team effort, but last night belonged largely to Genesis Parker who scored all of Gainesville's points in the first half and 21 of the 32 on the night!  Taylor Baltimore, as always played a solid game running the point and the 4's and 5's for Gainesville did a nice job sticking to the game plan and limiting Marsteller's much taller team to just 19 points for the game.  Congratulations to all the girls for a very special undefeated season!
1/9/2012 Gainesville vs. Stonewall
The Varsity girl's improved their season record to 9-0 with a road victory over the Stonewall Sabres last evening by the final score of 47-14.  Ashley Pennington erupted for the Hawk offense scoring a season high 11 points while Taylor Baltimore played her usual gritty game coming up with several steals and fast break opportunities.  Brenna McIntyre also had a nice offensive game dropping 8 points of her own. Again, 9 of the 12 girls found themselves in the scoring column and together are now one win away from a perfect season.  Come on out tomorrow night as they square off against Marsteller at Patriot HS in their last game of the season...tip off is set for 6:45pm.
1/6/2012 Bull Run vs. Gainesville
In their final home game of the season the Hawks escaped a tight one by defeating the visiting Bull Run Eagles by the final score of 27-20.  The Hawks started off quickly, jumping out and going on an 11-3 run but the interior presence for Bull Run was able to get the Eagles back into the game during the middle quarters.  Taylor Baltimore (10 pts) worked hard throughout the game on both ends of the floor and took over for the Hawks on offense in a game where the team was just not sharp.  Amanda Nehk (8 pts) played her best game of the year, stepping up and hitting some big time shots while playing solidly throughout.  The Hawks have improved to 8-0 with just two games to go in the season.  Come on out tonight as they travel to Stonewall for a 5pm start.
12/21/2011
Parkside vs. Gainesville
The Varsity Girls basketball team ended 2011 on a positive note defeating the visiting Panthers to improve their overall record to 7-0.  Once again 10 out of the 12 girls were able to score for the Hawks... led by Genesis Parker, Taylor Baltimore and Iqra Malik. The girls have 3 huge games to close out their season upon their return from winter break.  We will need your support on Friday, January 6th as they face off in their last HOME game of the year against Bull Run at 4:45pm.  Come on out and rock the light and dark blue and cheer on your Hawks!
12/19/2011
Gainesville vs. Manassas Park
The Varsity Hawks traveled to Manassas Park to start the second half of the season and were able to come home with a team victory.  10 of the 12 girls found themselves in the scoring column and all 12 girls contributed to the victory.  Brenna McIntyre and Iqra Malik led the offense for Gainesville while Ashleigh Meade, Taylor Baltimore and Genesis Parker made some unselfish decisions by making some great passes and leading the team in assists.  The girls play host to the visiting Parkside Panthers on Wednesday, the last game prior to winter vacation....So come on out and show your support!
12/15/2011 Marsteller vs. Gainesville
The Girls Varsity team made it through a tough game last night and were able to defeat the visiting Bull Dogs by the final score of 38-20.  The victory puts the Hawks at 5-0 through the first half of the season, however they know they need to tighten up a few areas as Marsteller was able to expose the defense and rattle the Hawks during the first half.  Kristin Jamison played her best offensive game of the season, playing aggressive and attacking the basket while Genesis Parker and Taylor Baltimore led the Hawks in scoring on the night.  Gainesville begins their 2nd half of the season on Monday when they travel to Manassas Park to take on the Cougars at 5pm.  Come on out and show your support!
12/12/2011 Stonewall vs Gainesville
The Hawks hosted the visiting Sabres yesterday and were able to come away with the victory by the final score of 46-9. After a sloppy defensive start the Hawks were able to clean it up during the 2nd half.  Despite missing a ton of lay-up opportunities and shooting a team season low of 31% from the field,  Genesis Parker was able to lead the Hawk offensive attack dropping a season high 17 points, followed by Taylor Baltimore's 11.  Hannah Lugent, Brenna McIntyre and Amanda Nehk each had 4 points while Ashley Pennington, Kayla Winbush and Natalie Kulich each scored 2 of their own.  The Hawks have a few areas they need to tighten up a bit, but on the whole have played very well as a team.  Come on out and show your support on Thursday as they square off against their cross town rival Marsteller Bull Dogs for a 4:45pm tip off.
12/9/2011 Gainesville vs. Bull Run
The varsity girls traveled to Bull Run yesterday and picked up their 2nd consecutive road victory, 3rd over all in defeating the Eagles by the final score of 35-10.  Again, all 12 girls were able to contribute in this solid team performance.  Amanda Nehk led the swarming Hawk defense with 7 steals on the night and for the 3rd straight game Ashley Pennington came through under the glass to lead the team in rebounds.  Taylor Baltimore and Genesis Parker were able to lead the scoring charge for Gainesville.  The Hawks have two home games next week to round out the first half of the season.  Come on out and show your support on Monday as they play host to the visiting Stonewall Sabres...4:45pm tip!
12/5/2011 Gainesville vs Parkside
The Girls Varsity Basketball team traveled to Parkside yesterday and was able to come home with their first road victory of the season.  The guards, led by Taylor Baltimore, were able to apply pressure throughout and make it difficult on the Panthers to get into their offensive sets. Another fine team effort by all 12 girls was very encouraging to see. Finding their way into the scoring column for the Hawks were Hannah Lugent, Iqra Malik, Kayla Winbush, Brenna McIntyre, Amanda Nehk, Genesis Parker and Taylor Baltimore.  The biggest test of the year will come this Thursday as the Hawks travel to Bull Run for their highly anticipated annual "Battle of the Birds".  Come on out and support your Hawks...tip off scheduled for 4:45pm.
12/1/2011 Manassas Park   vs.  Gainesville
The Varsity Girls Basketball team opened up their season in winning fashion by defeating the visiting Manassas Park Cougars. Seven of the twelve girls were able to find themselves in the scoring column including Taylor Baltimore, Genesis Parker, Karli Chipps, Ashleigh Meade, Amanda Nhek, Kayla Winbush and Kristin Jamison. The entire team played hard and were  able to chip in and contribute with a solid effort throughout. Please come on out and support he girls as they hit the road on Monday to visit the Panthers of Parkside for a 5pm tip off.
